On Ryan Ross’s Sexuality
So, due to the large number of anonymous messages we’ve been receiving, we Mods would like to clear up a few things about Ryan Ross and our general outlook on sexuality.
We’re not assuming heterosexuality as the default. Rather, we are letting Ryan himself set the narrative. He has made the decision to openly date women in the past, and has always been very vocal about his various girlfriends. When he is seeing someone, he becomes a ridiculous, affectionate doofus that is constantly kissing, hugging, and telling the world about them. And although Your Mileage May Vary, we Mods here at Pathetic! at the Disco only see this behavior explicitly directed at women. That is why we choose to discuss his specific relationships with these women.
Many people in this fandom erroneously believe that Ryan is a closeted gay man, to the point of it being a running joke and the subject of several memes. This is blatantly false, and is also why we decided to do our series, The Tragic Love Life of Ryan Ross.
Ryan does not owe us anything, nor does he have to “prove” anything in regards to his sexuality. He does not have to come out as gay, straight, bi, etc, and it’s unrealistic to project those expectations on people (especially public figures). Rather, we are basing our blog content off the information that Ryan has shared with everyone already himself.
He has talked publicly about his girlfriends, posted romantic pictures all over the internet, written songs about them, and more. We are not saying that Ryan Has to Be Straight and Will Always Be Straight. What we are saying is that Ryan Wants Everyone to Know about His Girlfriends and Invites Some Fan Speculation About Guys in Good Fun. There’s a big difference.
Anyway, we’re probably not going to discuss this more on the blog, because that’s not why we made this blog. We just want to have fun talking about a fascinating ex-member of two bands we all love.
